Custom Diorama Photography

This section probably needs just a little explanation. I build dioramas. Largely from scrap materials left over from various home improvement projects but yes, I build them and then light and photograph them. Sometimes I add in model cars or action figures if the diorama is a background to highlight that object. All the smoke and fog I create with fog machines. I do use Photoshop but try to get as much in camera as possible. I never use AI.

  • Late Night Delivery

Custom diorama photography. Not everything is as it seems at the old tavern tonight. Looks like the latest delivery of refreshing ale has arrived.

These photos are of a little diorama I constructed from a model truck and a bar I build from foam, wood and stuff that was laying around my workshop. I 3D printed the beer crates and brought it all together to photograph

  • Late Night Delivery (2)

Another angle of the old pub without the motorcycle.

  • Phantasm

Custom diorama photography. I built and photographed the Dunes Cantina from the original Phantasm movie. Recreating this movie scene was a lot of fun and someday I dream of having that Cuda.

  • In Space No One Will Hear You Sneeze

I love building models and this little astronaut model was a joy to build and photograph. Allergies, the bane of ALL our existence.

  • I Am So Lost

    Custom diorama photography.

  • Somewhere in the Woods

Custom diorama photography. Somewhere in the woods is a very scary little hut. This one was built from things out of the recycle bin and a few little plastic skulls from another diorama. A little hand held fog machine really set the mood.

  • Night Stalker

This custom diorama photography features the PHANTASM movie 1971 CUDA 340 die cast model from ERTL. The rest of the image is a nice little background diorama I put together for this shot.

  • Who You Gonna Call?

This photo diorama I put together when I was thinking about where the real version of the Ecto 1 is now. I imagined it was in some barn somewhere so I built this little barn and shot the image of the Hot Wheels Ghostbusters Ecto 1A 1:18 scale version of this Diecast Car. More than a nod to Ghostbusters Afterlife I guess.

  • Nosferatu

Mezco put out a wonderful 12th scale Nosferatu that just had to have a custom diorama. I made 3 or 4 different ones, all way to busy. Then I decided to just build a coffin that was reminiscent of the original silent movie and stack some rocks. That gave me the perfect image. Simpler is usually better… I know… I know.
